a man of the city
On a whim I recently took the Olympus 45mm f1.8 out for a stroll in the city. After the initial shock of using a telephoto for street shooting (it’s a 90mm equivalent on the GX7) I grew to rather like it. Not so much because I can shoot from further away but because it has a wonderful compressing, flattening effect, especially on buildings; they seem to almost pile up vertically. The Olympus 45mm is also a very lovely, super-sharp lens.
I walked for many hours and many miles during a hot afternoon and got nothing even remotely worthwhile and then, just when I was starting to ask myself what on earth I was doing wasting my time like this, I managed to get this shot. It’s these fleeting moments where it all comes together that make street photography so addictive.
