I love this shot.
There’s an energy to it; the way the woman is walking rapidly into the frame, motion blurred and somewhat out of focus. Her cigarette is at a perfect angle, an extension of her striking angular features, and the eye is inexorably drawn to it. In the background is an expensive watch shop… a shrine to appearance, money and luxury. There’s also a little mystery on the right where there’s a disembodied hand below a small patch of grey sky above what seems to be a dark alleyway.
There’s a complexity in the image, with foreground, multiple layers, negative space and reflections, that I was only partially aware of when I captured it and, having been shot with a 28mm equivalent lens, there’s even a slight Winogrand tilt going on 😉
I wish I could take shots like this every day.
